Piezoelectric Actuators

Melles Griot has developed piezoelectric actuators for linear motions up to 100зн. These actuators have been optimized for optical and fiber-optical applications. Drive voltage are in the range of 0 to 75 Vdc, with good response even below 10 volts. In Melles Griot actuators, piezoelectric stacks are mounted in 12.7mm diameter stainless steel housings. A permanent preload is applied during assembly. The maximum design voltages across each piezoceramic slice are kept low to prevent internal breakdown.

Using Piezoelectric Actuators
with Melles Griot Translation Stages

For most applications, an actuator is mounted opposite from the micrometer or thumbscrew. The push block is replaced with a new push block, clearance drilled with a 12.7 mm hole, to accommodate the piezo actuator. The actuator tip should be appropriate for the push block. Melles Griot translation stages use ball end drives. Other stages may be converted by using the appropriate drive end. Typically, this would be either an 07 PAA 001 plain end, or 07 PAA 005 ball drive end. Please contact a sales engineer for details.
