Thorlabs' design has a wide, square
relief cut that provides a highly stable two line contact
for the mating post. A spring loaded plunger within
the brass thumbscrew holds the steel post firmly within
the post holder prior to final tightening. This allows
one-handed positioning of post mounted devices.

|

|

|
|

|
|
All Thorlabs' mounting bases have
bottom relief cuts that ensure stable mounting. The
bases are attached to the post holders via a socket
screw that fits in a counterbored clearance hole in
the bottom of the base. All bases are compatible with
either English or Metric tables.

P-Series
Solid stainless steel P-series posts, ¥Õ1.5"(38mm)
diameter. Heights ranging from 1.5"(30mm) to 14"(350mm).
This design offers the ability to stack multiple mounting posts
to achieve an array of lengths. Using an Allen wrench(standard 1/4"-20
or M6 ball driver) inserted through the side clearance hole, sufficient
torque can be achieved to securely tighten stacked posts. Mounting
shims are also available to provide greater flexibility in height.

Pb1
Standard post base bolts directly
onto P-Series posts(hardware is included). Four 1/4"(M6)
clearance holes on 2"(50mm) centers provide for
rigid mounting.
PB2
Universal post base allows random
placement of the P-Series post on optical benches with
1"(25mm) centers.

The C1500 Post Clamp allows optic
mounts with #8-32(M4) tapped mounting holes to be attached
to a ¥Õ1.500" post. As an added feature, the angle
of the optic mount can be set while the knurled knob
is used to thread the device onto the C1500. For final
tightening, four holes are provided on the knob; these
holes allow a 5/64"(2mm) hex wrench to be inserted
and used to obtain sufficient torque to securely lock
the mount in place.

By combining
dynamic damping techniques in the upper section with
lead shot in the lower section of our DP14 Damped Post,
we have produced a mounting post that outperforms other
designs.
The DP14
Damped Post performance is illustrated by comparing
the time-domain impulse response of three different
posts. At the bottom of the page, we see the typical
"ringing" response of a solid post, along
with the slightly better performance of a hollow post.
The third plot shows the response of the highly damped
DP14 post. Here we note that the impulse energy is quickly
dissipated, with the post "ringing" down in
about 50ms.
All three
of the plots shown below were measured by applying an
impulse force to a post carrying a 1lb. load attached
to the top of the post. The displacement due to the
applied impulse was monitored using an accelerometer.

These multi-purpose post clamps can
be used as a standard collar to mark a specific location
on a post. Additional uses are illustrated on the accompanying
photographs. When the C1498 is combined with our SD1
adapter, mechanical devices that have #8-32 (M4-0.7)
mounting holes can be securely mounted.
