RIGHT ANGLE
PRISMS
|
|
The
45-45-90 degree Prism is the most commonly
purchased of all our Prisms, and has several
applications : to produce 90¢ªreflection
of light, to retroreflect light (Porro Prism)
and even as a front-surface mirror with
the hypotenuse aluminized. The surfaces
of these Prisms are flat within 1/10-wave.
Angles are within 3 minutes. In addition,
we select from our production those Prisms
to be used as the two components in making
our SCL-series Beamsplitter Cubes.

We
fabricate Pellin-Broca in CaF©üfor the vacuum-ultraviolet,
and in UV-grade fused silica for the ultraviolet
and near-infrared. These are designed so
that the entrance and exit faces are approximately
at Brewster's angle for the design spectrum,
thus minimizing reflection losses for p-polarized
light.

We
fabricate Dispersing Prisms in CaF©üfor the vacuum-ultraviolet,
in UV grade fused silica for the ultraviolet, and in
high-dispersion glass for the visible and near-infrared.
These are designed so that the entrance and exit faces
are approximately at Brewster's angle for the design
spectrum, thus minimizing reflection losses for p-polarized
light.

High
index of refraction prisms are used for the coupling
of light into films for the purpose of measuring film
thickness and refractive index. We will gladly furnish
a list of reference articles on the subject upon request. For
the measurement of films whose index is above 1.8, our
rutile crystal(Ti02) prisms are used. Extraordinary
index is 2.865. For films below index 1.8, we offer
our prism in gadolinium gallium garnet(GGG), with index
1.965. All three prism faces are polished to ¼-wave
flat, and the 90¢ª corner is sharp (no bevel).
CAUTION
: Prism coupling will cause scratching of the faces
and chipping of the sharp edge.
